    Summary:

    2022 began with images flashing across our TV screens of Russian tanks entering Ukrainian sovereign land and Russian airstrikes decimating the homes and villages of the Ukrainian people. While times of war have always been discouraging, times of war around Christmastime can seem especially jarring. What do we make of the angels words on Christmas Day when they said, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luke 2:14) Do all of the wars that have happened since these words were spoken mean that God isn’t pleased with humanity? Or are these words that can’t be trusted since there is such a lack of peace on the earth in so many other ways? How are we supposed to understand this idea of “peace on earth” and why should it still matter to us today?
